A car wash for a good behavior incentive?

My car tends to get really dirty in the winter. More dirty than any other time of the year.  With all of the slush and dirt and snow and salt being sprayed onto my car a car wash is a must for me during the winter. It just so happens that my children enjoy car washed too.

Apparently a car wash, or a chug wash as my son likes to call it, is a magical place where good little boys and girls go to get clean. My son specifically asked to go to the chug wash after nap if he was good. Who could say no to that?

Project 366 Day 31 of One Photo A Day: Arts and Crafts

My sister-in-law gave me a gift for Christmas that was thoughtful and creative. She made me four pictures for my baby’s nursery. They were covered in fabric that would look great in the nursery and she had taken pictures of the elephants from his rug to use as the artwork for each of the frames.

As much as I loved the gift, it needed to be a little more me. The pictures of the elephants did not turn out as well as she would have hoped and I got permission to revamp the gift. So I did. My son has an Eli the Elephant rug from Pottery Barn and the Eli the Elephant mobile... it is a totally elephant themed nursery and I needed some adorable artwork to tie it all together.

Project 366 Day 30 of One Photo A Day

I cannot believe I have been doing this for 30 straight days! Only 336 left to go!

Okay… So I am a big fan of snow. I love it. I think it is incredibly fun to play in. Now that I have children I love it even more. There is so much you can do with snow; snow ball fights, sledding, skiing, snow forts… the list goes on!

My children seem to enjoy the snow just as much as I do. We spent a good part of the day playing in the snow. My son loves to be pulled around on the sled. I feel like a dog on the Iditarod.

Project 366

I love working in the nursery at my church. It is always entertaining and it is always fun to see how my children interact with other children. As an added bonus, we all get to play with new toys!

This Sunday my husband and I worked the nursery at church and got to enjoy the company of a room full of kids. We had snacks, bible stories, racing, and toy play. My little baby boy just loves kitchens right now and was super excited to be able to crawl right through the play kitchen at church.

Leftover Turkey Recipe: Pesto Turkey Pizza!

Over the years I have discovered that when I plan my meals I get the most out of my menu if I plan on using the leftovers of one meal to create a whole new meal. For example, if we cook a turkey on Tuesday I will use the leftover turkey to create turkey enchiladas or pest turkey pizza on Thursday. By doing this I am no longer wasting food and I am saving time during later meal preparations.

I am always on the lookout for great recipes that I can use leftover turkey or chicken with. Since we no longer eat a lot of red meats in our home, I look for fun new ways to eat turkey and chicken. I have been on a mission to find a good pizza recipe for a while when I happened across this one on the Pillsbury website. It is supposed to be for pesto squares, but I tweaked it a little.

One of my favorite things to do with my children is visit the library. Our community library is great. They have a fabulous selection of children’s books, cozy little corners set up for families to read books, work tables and a huge selection of puzzles varying in difficulty.

My toddler loves to visit the library. He gets to pick out books to take home and work on new and interesting puzzles. Lately my child has been all about the dinosaurs and trains and was ecstatic that the library got a new dinosaur puzzle.

Project 366 Day 27 of One Photo A Day

I have decided that cloth diapering and me do not get along. I love the idea of cloth diapering and I love the adorable looking diapers themselves. They are so incredibly cute! I love that they can be made out of different materials and can be AIO or sized according to child. There are so many things to like about cloth diapering that it is truly a shame that I am just not that into it.

What may you ask am I not particularly into about cloth? I do not like having to handle the soiled diapers. I do not like having to wash all of those soiled diapers. I am not a fan of the stinky diapers that stink up the room. I tried it. I am just not that into it.

Fitness Friday

I am on a mission. I would like to get toned. I would like to lose weight. I would like to be healthier and more energetic {you didn’t think it was possible for me to be more energetic? It is.}. I know a large part of losing weight will have to do with eating habits as well as an exercise program. After having two children I am ready to start feeling like my old self again. I am ready to lose weight and get fit.

This week I started a new fitness regimen called TurboFire. If you have not heard of this workout let me enlighten you a little.  TurboFire is a 90 day program that is all about intense cardio conditioning.  This program is broken down for you into days and classes. There is an online resource that you can use to track your workouts and interact with others who are also completing Beach Body Fitness Programs.

Project 366 Day 26 of One Photo A Day

My boys do not look at gates at deterrents. Nope, a gate is just another toy to be played with. After all, there is an unlimited amount of entertainment to be found in a safety gate...

Only my children. Or maybe not, maybe your kids do (did) this too. My children see a gate and immediately go to it to see what they are being kept from.  When the gate goes up it is the signal that there is something that they are not supposed to be into, so they are drawn like ants to a picnic to find out what could possibly be on the other side of the safety gate.

Once the other side of the gate has been discovered they look for ways to interact with the gate. A game of peek-a-boo usually ensues if mom or dad is on the opposite side. My nine month old uses the gate as an aide for standing and walking. He pulls himself up by the bars and starts talking and walking to his little hearts content. I mean really, what is there not to be entertained by with a gate?

You can run, but you cannot hide!

My son has decided that if there is an inch of wiggle room, he is going to try to wiggle underneath whatever he can. Lately he has been burrowing underneath chairs and tables; all chairs and tables! He is a burrowing fool!

A picture is worth a thousand words: get creative!

I have mentioned before how crafty my sister in law, Wendy, can be. She is super crafty and creative and artistic. I don't take my children to professional photographers because my sister in law has a fabulous camera and takes wonderful pictures. She also has the ability to manipulate pictures in a fun and innovative way.

I scheduled a photo session with Wendy back in December to take pictures of my family for an anniversary gift for my husband. The photo session was fun. Tiring, but very entertaining. The pictures turned out amazing... with the help of a little photo editing by Wendy. I never knew how hard it was to get three children to smile and look at the camera at the same time.

The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is a phenomenal way to spend a day!

MSILast weekend was a jam packed weekend for our on the go family. We had a birthday party, a dinosaur event, and a day at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry (MSI) all packed into one fun filled weekend. We are a very active family and love to take the kids to experience new and exciting things, so the MSI was at the top of our places to visit.

Part of having a successful family outing is to plan and be prepared. We looked up the free days for Illinois residents on the Museum of Science and Industry website and picked a day that would work best for us and that wouldn’t be too crowded {we hoped}. We called a family my mother-in-law to see if she would watch the baby so that we could take our toddler by himself. Normally when we do family activities we take everyone in the family, but this time we wanted our toddler to be able to fully experience the MSI without worrying about naptimes and feedings. With my MIL able to watch the baby the plans for MSI were a go!

Although technically I am not in Chicago, I am in the Chicago-land area and I love it. I love the change in weather and the different seasons and the unpredictability of temperature.

Football Fan?

My husband has a dinner event that his bank hosts every year where a member of the Bears football team comes and talks. This is by far my husband’s favorite event of the year. My father-in-law has season tickets to watch the Bears and this is the boys bonding time. I love that my hubby has something special that he does with his father. I hope that when our boys are older they enjoy father-son time as much as my husband enjoys spending time with his father.

Project 366: Day 21 of One Photo A Day

Project 366

My toddler used to be the pickiest eater. I bought picky eater cookbooks and cut out millions {slight exaggeration} of recipes from magazines in the hopes that my son would widen his range of foods he would eat. Preparing special foods did not work for my family. In fact, the more fun a meal was the least likely he was to eat it; instead he played with his food.

This was obviously not the goal I had in mind when preparing a healthy meal. The goal was to get my son to eat healthy food. I wanted my son to eat more than just the staple go-to foods. I wanted him to open up and try new things!

Turbo Fire: Taking my body back one workout at a time!

Last year I let you, my readers, choose which fitness class I would take. Almost every single comment I received said that Zumba was the way to go. So Zumba it was! I signed up this last fall and have been dancing one night a week ever since. One night a week is just not enough for me anymore... I need more.

My little sister is getting married this summer and she has asked me to be her matron of honor. I could not have been more thrilled or more honored.  As much as I am looking forward to my baby sister’s wedding, I am apprehensive about how I am going to look in my bridesmaid dress {which is gorgeous by the way}. as Emeril  would say, it is time to kick it up a notch!
WalkingI have several workout DVDs that I like to rotate throughout the week. I have created my own 12 week workout program that is a combination of workout DVDs and running on my elliptical.  I have been pretty good about sticking with my homemade 12 week program, but the results have been only so-so. Although I have taken off a little weight {12 lbs}, this is not a significant enough weight loss for all of the work I am putting in. I think that this homemade 12 week program is unsuccessful because I doing whichever workout I feel like that day with no consideration to which part of my body I am working and what exercise moves are going to get me the best results.  This week ends my homemade 12 week program... Time to try something else.

I was undecided about my next course of action. I spent some time looking online and researching different options by reading reviews. Nothing jumped out at me. Nothing screamed “I work! Try Me!” Then out of blue I got a message from an old friend of mine about a workout I should try.

When my baby boy was born he was born with a head full of hair. Like most babies he lost some hair and then it grew back as beautiful as ever. His hair would stick straight up {no product needed}. In fact, when he was ity bity we couldn’t get his hair to stay down. We started calling him Rooster.

Project 366: Day 19 of One Photo A Day

My little man is mobile. Although he has been crawling for a while he is now climbing the stairs, standing up unassisted, and starting to become more daring when it comes to walking. Scary!

I am so happy that he is nailing his developmental milestone… but I am so sad that he is no longer my little ity bity baby! He is getting so big!

DIY Photo Frame!

I have had so much fun finding and pinning ideas, arts, crafts and recipes that I fear I will never get around to doing any of them unless I jump right in…. So I am starting a Pinterest Project Thursday Meme. Every Thursday {hopefully I can keep this up for a while} I will tackle a Pinterest Project and share with you both the original “Pin” as well as my version of the project. This can be arts, crafts, recipes, or projects… pretty much anything. I encourage you to join in! One Pinterest Project at a time!

I have been working on one particular project for a while and it is taking quite some time to finish up so this week’s Pinterest Project is one my sister-in-law has done. My sister-in-law Wendy is one of the craftiest people I know. This woman got me started with scrapbooking and is the one who sent me my invitation to Pinterest. She is usually my partner in crime when it comes to doing Pinterest projects and my go-to gal for all my arts and crafts.

This week I am sharing with you my sister-in-laws crafty photo opp creation!

A Blogtastic Extravaganza Sponsor Spotlight: Mother and bebe

 ABE

The days are dwindling down rather quickly and A Blogtastic Extravaganza is getting closer and closer! Are you excited? I am! I have had such a great time putting together the Mom Mart “On the Go” prize package and could not be more thrilled with the final results! Today I am going to spotlight a fabulous sponsor: Mother and bebe.

I know I have spoken in the past about my love of Etsy shops and the creative influences behind the products. A great example of this creativity can be found in the Mother and bebe shop. These ladies make phenomenal baby carriers! But that isn’t all they make. They make fabric high chairs, burp cloths, pacifier pods, bandana bibs, and more!

Mother and bebe is a multi-cultural partnership that is working hard to bring you safe, reliable and innovative products for your children and families. Mother and bebe wholeheartedly believe in the value and importance of carrying your baby and wish to compliment your relationship with your baby by offering products that will empower you. They are well versed in baby wearing and locally offer a free class to people interested in baby wearing. If you don’t live in the Atlanta, GA area and are in need of instructional assistance, Mother and bebe has created explicit instructions as well as videos for the use of their carriers on their website.

Nothing says scary like a two year old behind the wheel of a car… Any car!

Have you ever played those arcade driving video games?  I have. I think they can be incredibly hard to steer. In fact I am awful at it. I think it is 10 times harder to drive the video game cars than it is to drive an actual car… but that is just me. My son on the other hand loves to drive anything and everything. If there is a steering wheel he is on it!

A Blogtastic Extravaganza Sponsor Spotlight: Tommee Tippee

We are less than a week away from A Blogtastic Extravaganza {ABE for short} and I could not be more thrilled with the prize package I have put together with the generosity of my phenomenal sponsors! I have already spotlighted two of my four ABE sponsors and today I am spotlighting a fabulous brand that I have come to know and love, Tommee Tippee.

I have had the opportunity to test and review a couple of Tommee Tippee products and I have found excellence in everything of theirs that I have had the pleasure of testing. I have reviewed the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Single Electric Breast Pump as well as the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Decorated Starter Set. I have come to associate quality and durability with the Tommee Tippee name brand and will continue to use their products.

Discover the Dinosaurs: A family friendly event?

Discover the Dinosaurs Review

My boys have shown an avid interest in dinosaurs, all dinosaurs. My toddler who will be turning three next month knows several dinosaurs by name and is actively engaged by dinosaurs; be it books, toys, or shows he is enthralled. Even my nine-month-old is interested in prehistoric creatures!

My husband had heard that there was a dinosaur event taking place in Rosemont, IL with animatronics. Large dinosaurs that could make noise and move, this was something we didn’t want to miss! We decided that we would take both of the boys to Discover the Dinosaurs in Rosemont, IL and make a day of it.

My husband, the planner, found out when the event opened and we hit the road early in order to get there before the crowds. We paid $13 for parking which was not too bad; this is the Chicago-land area and parking can be outrageous at times. There was a nice walkway from the parking garage to the convention center making it easy for families with children during the winter months. Once inside the convention center you can purchase your tickets to enter the event. We were ready to see some dinos!

Project 366: Day 15 of One Photo A Day

Playing in the snow is something that every child should get to experience at least once. When I was young I remember spending snow days outside with the neighborhood kids building forts and having snowball fights. And after spending the day outdoors a cup of hot cocoa is a must.

The Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Decorated Starter Set is an AMAZING Bottle set: Check it out!

My baby boy is nine months old and is already displaying an opinion. He has become very particular about his bottles. If he is given a bottle that he does not want, he cries and pushes it away. If he is given a bottle he does want, my son will grab onto the bottle with both hands and bring it to his mouth on his own. Of all the things one could have an opinion about he chooses bottles!

Steven is my second child and like most things with second siblings he gets a lot of hand me downs. Unfortunately our original bottles from our first baby did not hold up as well as we would have liked. They became filmy and the markings along the side for measuring milk/formula had completely worn off on a majority of the bottles. It was time to replace them.

Tommee Tippee

When I was offered the chance to review the Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature Newborn Decorated Starter Set I was ecstatic! I had heard great things about the Tommee Tippee bottles from other moms and was super excited to be able to try them out for myself. I was not disappointed. These bottles are easy to clean, easy for my baby to hold onto, and made for an easy transition from breast to bottle.

The greater Chicago land area has finally received its first snowfall of this winter! My boys could not be more excited.

This morning William and Steven stood at the front door holding hands and staring out the window at all the snow. It just melted my heart. So I just had to grab the camera and capture the moment on film.

CrockPot Jambalaya Recipe

I love Jambalaya and I love this recipe. Whenever I make it, I make the full batch and then freeze the leftovers to eat as quick and easy dinners later on throughout the month. It is super easy to make and tastes phenomenal.

A Blogtastic Extravaganza Sponsor Spotlight: Lilacs & Lollipops

A Blogtastic Extravaganza

Just 13 more days until we kick off A Blogtastic Extravaganza (ABE3)! I cannot believe how time is flying. I feel like I was just wrapping Christmas gifts, and now we are almost halfway through the month of January! Time flies when you’re having fun and I have been having a blast preparing for A Blogtastic Extravaganza!

Today my Sponsor Spotlight is being shined on a fabulous Etsy shop that I discovered this last year called Lilacs & Lollipops. I am a huge fan of handmade product and feel that there is a lot of heart and soul that goes into handmade creations. The online handmade marketplace known as Etsy is a fabulous forum for everyday people to buy and sell handmade or vintage items.

Lilacs & Lollipops was established in the spring of 2008 by two sisters, Natalie & Lacey. This shop sells not only nursing covers, but a wide variety of chic accessories for motherhood. Their fabric choices are beautiful and their design is both sensible and stylish. They have the ability to create custom orders and to provide expedited shipping in case you are in a rush. If you have not had a chance to check them out please do so!

See monkey do monkey. My little monkey spent yesterday watching the workmen rip up the old floor and prepare to install the new floor. There were tools of all kinds to ooh and ah over. There were hammers, and tape measurers, scrapers, saws, and gloves galore.

So my son, being 100% boy, has decided that he needs to take out his tools to work on the basement. His favorite tool being the tape measure; my son spent the day measuring anything and everything.

Home Renovations with Children: Am I crazy?

Hammer

Bang Bang Bang goes the hammer. Tap Tap Tap goes the hammer. Thump Thump Thump goes mommy’s head on the desk.

As some of you may know, especially if you are keeping up with my Project 366 photos, I am doing a little home renovation. More specifically I am redoing the flooring in my kitchen. Out with the old and in with the new. I am getting rid of my old ceramic tile flooring and replacing it with pretty hardwood floors. Please do not think that I am swinging the hammer here. I am not. I have hired professional people to rip out the old and install the new.

Project 366: Day 9 of One Photo A Day

Goodbye old kitchen ceramic tile floor. My floor guy got here bright and early this morning to rip out my old ceramic tile flooring and the vinyl that was hiding underneath.

Surprisingly my little peanut was able to nap right through the destruction and removal of the old floor. Although I think that has more to do with his exhaustion from a morning spent at the Dr.’s office than the noise level at our house. Either way I am thrilled that morning naps are over and done and my flooring is moving right along.

Best Mommy ME Time Ever: An afternoon of errands and pedicures. #CBias

One of my favorite things to do on the weekends is to carve out a little Mommy ME time. With my hubby at home all weekend long I am able to sneak off when the kiddos are down for a nap for a little mommy me time. Before I can head out the door I have to check a couple things off of my list, because mommy me time also includes a few errands that need to be done as well.

Nail SalonOnce I am sure that I have everything I need I am ready to head to the nail salon and enjoy some rest and relaxation with one of my best friends. My friend recommended a nail salon called Bravia Nails in Oswego IL. Although I had never heard of this salon before, I was happy to try something new.

As soon as you walk in the salon you see a counter with a sign-in sheet and a wide selection of nail polish colors and brands to choose from for your manicure or pedicure. They also sell a wide variety of nail polishes, nail repair paraphernalia, and lotions.

Something interesting that this salon does that I have not seen before at other nail salons I have been to is a nail polish testing area. If you are unsure of the nail polish color you can open the bottle and brush the polish onto a piece of paper. I found this to be extremely helpful in my selection process {I have a tendency to be a little indecisive when it comes to little things, like nail color, clothing, and hair styles}.

Project 366: Day 8 of One Photo A Day

Project 366

My family loves to cook and bake together. My toddler especially loves to “help” out in the kitchen. One of his favorite things to do is bake cookies with his dad.

As a Christmas gift this year we received some pretty awesome Star Wars stuff. One item that knocked our socks off in particular was the Star Wars pancake mold set. The set included a Yoda head, a Darth Vader head, and a Storm Trooper head. We thought we would give them a test run as cookie cutters. I think they were a success.

A new kitchen floor!

My New Wood Floors Have Arrived!

I am getting new flooring in my kitchen. The flooring that came with the house was a DIY job that did not meet with our seal of approval. We had a very nice man who cleans tile come to our home last summer and clean our grout, fix the spots where the grout had come up, and reseal the entire kitchen. This was a temporary solution. Soon after this patch job, the grout in the kitchen started coming up again.

The Art of Sharing: A toddler and his toys.

Sharing

My son is getting ready to turn three shortly and there seems to be a shift in his playtime demeanor. Lately I am hearing things like “it’s mine” and “I need it.”

When playing with little children, such as his brother or cousin, he edges them out of the way of whatever he is playing with. If you aren’t paying close attention it simply looks like he is cuddling with them or getting down on the floor and playing with them on their level. Do not be fooled, this is not what is going on at all! He is nudging them gently away from his train tracks or dinosaurs.

When the baby picks up a train to play with, my toddler will come over and snatch it out of his hands. Even though he doesn’t really want to play with the train and he was not playing with the train at all before his brother took an interest, he NEEDS the train.

Playground time in January?!?

I cannot believe that it is so nice outside right now. The weather has been unseasonable warm for December and January. The kids and I took advantage of this phenomenal weather and hit up the nearby park. I pushed my little baby boy in a swing for the first time ever!

We had so much fun running around the playground, sliding down the slide, swinging on the swings that it was hard to leave. My little baby boy could not stop giggling! Although I have no room in my current home for a swing… this little trip to the park makes me want to get one.

Play Date

Woo Hoo Play-dates! I love play-dates and I love play-dates with family even more. This morning I spent the morning with my sister-in-law and her adorable daughter. They came over so that the kids could play together and us moms could work on a Pinterest project {come back next Thursday to see what we made}.

The babies are about three months apart in age and love to interact with one another. They spend their time talking to each other and crawling all over one another. It is the most comical thing to watch and I love it!

DIY Mud Room Organization Project

I am all about DIY organizational projects and have found inspiration everywhere! My boys recently received backpacks as a gift and wanted a place to store them. Since we are always on the go I decided it was time to better organize our laundry/mud room with the necessities we use on a daily basis. That and I was tired of digging through the front closet looking for missing shoes.

Best job in the world!

I seem to fall more and more in love with my children each day. Whether it is something hysterical my toddler has said or the way my baby boy coos at me from his crib. I feel blessed each and every day to be their mother… Yes, even on those terrible, awful, no good, very bad days that make me want to move to Australia! Best job in the world!

#WW Wordless Wednesday: Willow Tree

My Wordless Wednesday picture for today is a gift I received from my husband. If you have not heard of these little Willow Tree figurines, let me take a minute to introduce you.

Readers... Beautiful hand carved wooden figurines... Beautiful hand carved wooden figurines... My Readers.

I love these figurines because they are expressionless and could be anyone. Feelings are revealed through the gestures of the figurines as opposed to facial expressions. They evoke thoughtfulness and I think they are simply beautiful. My mother has gifted me the entire nativity scene and I thoroughly enjoy putting them out at Christmas and am sad when I have to pack them away and wait a whole year to take them out again.  I have a couple of the Willow Tree figurines on display in my home that were also gifts from family and I smile each and every time I look at them. The picture shown here is my latest acquisition.

I like to celebrate our anniversary by gifting traditional items in their corresponding order. For example, the one year wedding anniversary gift is paper, year two is cotton, year three is leather, year four is fruit or flowers, and year five is wood. My husband and I celebrated our fifth year wedding anniversary recently and this was his gift to me. He nailed it! Since we have two boys it is perfect.

How do you celebrate your anniversary?
